Plastics Technology (PT) and MoldMaking Technology (MMT), preeminent sources of technical reporting on the software, materials, equipment and processes used in the production of plastic parts and structures for their respective industries, have announced a series of leadership changes as the brands continue to evolve and grow.

Taking over brand management of PT will be Jeff Sloan. From 2006 to 2023, Jeff served as editor-in-chief of PT’s sister publication CompositesWorld (CW), and since Sloan has been brand VP of CW. Prior to his work on CW, however, from 1996 to 2006, Sloan served as the editor-in-chief and then publisher of Injection Molding and Modern Plastics magazines. Gardner Business Media, which owns PT and MMT, is excited that Sloan is returning to the plastics industry to help guide what has become the most dominant media brand in the global plastics marketplace.

Sloan says of this leadship change: “This opportunity to lead PT and return to the plastics industry is a challenge I relish. Fortunately, PT has a strong and stable team of editors, salespeople and support staff that make this the most respected media brand in the plastics industry. I’m thrilled to be back.”

There is a change on the editorial side of PT as well. Tony Deligio, currently executive editor of PT, will become editor-in-chief and lead the development, production and deployment of all editorial content for the brand. Jim Callari, who has been in plastics journalism since 1988 and a vital part of PT since 1997, has led and managed PT’s editorial content since 2009 and will continue in his role as editorial director, reporting to Deligio.

“I look forward to working with Tony as we both assume new roles with the brand,” Callari says. “I will continue to visit processors and suppliers, and report on new technology, particularly as it relates to extrusion and auxiliary equipment. I will also continue to develop technical programming for our Extrusion Conference. This will truly be a seamless transition and has been in the works for more than a year. Tony Deligio is an experienced and respected voice in our business and given where we both are in our respective careers, it is in the best interest of us as individuals, the Plastics Technology brand under Jeff’s leadership and Gardner Business Media to make this change now.”

Deligio says of the change, “I’m humbled to take over editorial leadership of Plastics Technology magazine and am extremely lucky to have the opportunity to transition into this role with the help and guidance of Jim Callari, who has been a fantastic steward and champion of the brand for so long. PT will continue to be a leading resource for plastics processors seeking best practices and new technologies to further improve their operations.”

For MMT, Gardner has announced the promotion of Dale Jackman to brand vice president. Jackman joined Gardner as a salesperson in 2017 working on the MMT and CW brands. In 2018, he joined PT and has become an integral and vital part of PT’s and MMT’s success. Dale has also taken a leadership role with PT’s and MMT’s NPE products.

Dale notes: “As the saying goes, ‘it all starts with a mold. So did my career with GBM. For the past seven years, I have had the pleasure of working on MoldMaking Technology, and now I cannot wait to help grow one of the most important industries in the world. I look forward to drawing on my experience both with MMT, and as a processor, to bring in new perspectives and ideas.”

Christina Fuges, editorial director of MMT, says, “I'm pleased to welcome Dale Jackman as the brand manager of MMT. With his experience within our brand and his expertise in the moldmaking and plastics industries, I'm confident Dale will lead us to further success. His background as regional manager and NPE Show Products Sales Director has prepared him well for this role. I look forward to the new ideas and perspectives he will bring, marking a new chapter for us. I'm optimistic about the future of MMT under Dale’s leadership.”
