S&B Selected as Contractor for New Hope Energy Advanced Plastics Recycling Unit

New Hope Energy and Total Energies collaboration for an advanced plastics recycling unit gains momentum.

New Hope Energy selects S&B as contractor for new advanced recycling plant

Houston-based S&B Engineers and Constructors (S&B) signed a multi-year master service agreement to provide engineering, procurement and construction services for Houston-based New Hope Energy’s plastics pyrolysis unit in Tyler, Texas.

As reported recently, New Hope Energy has entered into a commercial agreement with France’s TotalEnergies under which New Hope Energy will build an advanced recycling plant to transform end-of-life plastic waste into a recycled feedstock. Scheduled for startup in 2025, the New Hope Energy plant will use a patented pyrolysis technology, developed in partnership with Lummus Technology, to process and convert more than 683 million lb/yr of mixed plastic waste. TotalEnergies will use 220 million lb/yr of Recycled Polymer Feedstock (RPF) in its Texas-based production units to manufacture high-quality polyolefins suitable for food-grade applications such as flexible and rigid food packaging containers.

The initial project under this partnership, an expansion at New Hope Energy’s existing Tyler, Texas facility, will add over 925,0000 lb/day of capacity to convert plastic waste to chemical feedstocks. This expansion will allow the Tyler plant to divert over 300 million lb/yr of plastic waste from landfills and represents a long-term alliance between S&B and New Hope Energy, an environmental technology company developing advanced chemical recycling systems.

S&B will provide full EPC services for the pyrolysis unit expansion to industrial scale using Lummus New Hope Plastic Pyrolysis Technology to process plastic waste into renewable chemical feedstocks. The project began in late 2022, with construction completion and commissioning expected in early 2024.
