Milacron’s Mold-Masters Business Marks 10 Years In China With Plans to Double Capacity
By the end of 2016, the Milacron subsidiary will have doubled capacity for hot runners and components in Jiangsu, with total headcount approaching 1000.
Milacron CEO Tom Goeke said the Mold-Masters facility, which opened in 2005 in Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province, is in the planning stages of an expansion that will double its output of hot runners and hot runner components. Goeke declined to reveal the planned total investment, noting that the company is still awaiting final engineering drawings for the expansion, but he did say that the current timeline calls for the project to be completed in 18 months.
At this point in time, there are over 700 employees in Kunshan City, but once the expansion is completed, there will be close to 1000, according to Goeke. Across all its brands, Milacron has 11 locations spread across China, with an additional satellite office for Mold-Masters in Shenzhen.
An Heid, president of Asia for Mold-Masters noted that the Kunshan City operation’s business has grown every year since its inception, with its capacity previously doubled in 2011. Despite starting with only 20 employees back in 2005, today it is Mold-Masters largest operation in terms of headcount. Quick order turnarounds are a point of emphasis, according to Heid, with quotes returned in hours, engineering drawings in a day, and final drawing in less than three days.
