The Hot Shots injection molded part competition organized by Plastics Technology magazine is once again accepting submissions, giving injection molders the opportunity for recognition from their peers and the broader molding community. Finalists will be judged via people’s choice voting with the potential for winners in two distinct categories: Technical Sophistication and Achievement in Molding Efficiency/Economics, with winners voted on and named at PTXPO (March 18-20; Donald E. Stephens Convention Center; Rosemont, Illinois).

Ultradent Hot Shots 2023 winners

Representatives of Ultradent accept both Hot Shots awards at PTXPO 2023.

In addition to being recognized at PTXPO, winning entries will be featured in a Plastics Technology article detailing the component’s accomplishments. Interested parties can learn about past entrants and winners; and visit the competition’s page at the PTXPO website, where they can find the submission form.

Potential winners in the Technical Sophistication category will be judged on a variety of factors, including use of new technology in materials, tooling or molding, as well as overcoming challenges in molding arising from the material, complexity of part/tool design and/or very tight tolerances. The Achievement in Molding Efficiency/Economics award will consider savings in materials and/or production costs through a variety of factors, including parts consolidation; thin-walling; overall part-weight reduction; reduction or elimination of secondary operations; savings in machine/tool cost; improved quality/reduced rejects; heightened productivity/reduced cycle time; and use of recycled or biobased materials.

The deadline for submissions is Jan. 31, 2025. Enter today.
