China's Competing on the High End Too
If you still associate the Chinese with producing low-quality, commodity-type products, better think again.
If you still associate the Chinese with producing low-quality, commodity-type products, better think again. Our regular conversations with readers and suppliers alike suggest Chinese plastics processors are quick studies and rapidly embracing new technologies. Last week we received a press release from Shiner International of Haikou, China, announcing that they had received their 16th patent in the area of BOPP film processing. BOPP film is used for packaging of food and other products; global growth for these films is expected to be 6-7%/yr, driven by the expanding economies of China, Russia, Brazil and Eastern Europe, the company said in the statement. Rest assured the Chinese are competing on the high end of all processing markets. All the more reason for the North American processors to kick up their game a notch or two.
