Leadership Transition at Teijin Automotive Technologies

Chris Twining promoted to president, CEO Steve Rooney to retire in March 2023.

Teijin Automotive Technologies (formerly Continental Structural Plastics) and parent company Teijin Ltd, have announced a set of leadership transitions starting April 2022. Teijin Ltd., has named Akimoto Uchikawa as new president and CEO, replcing Jun Suzuki who will remain with the company as chairman of the board.

Meanwhile, Steve Rooney, who serves as CEO of Teijin Automotive Technologies and general manager of the Composites Business Unit (CBU), will be retiring from the organization effective March 31, 2023. To ensure a smooth transition, the company has promoted Chris Twining from COO to president of Teijin Automotive Technologies North America, and COO of the CBU, effective April 1, 2022. Twining will continue to report to Rooney until his retirement.

Headquartered in Auburn Hills, Mich., the company also operated facilities in Indiana, Ohio, North Carolina, Texas, Mexico, France, Portugal, Czec Republic and China. Teijin Automotive Technologies is expected to continue to be a recognized leader in sustainable, lightweight composites, under Twining’s leadership. He has been with the company since 2001, has served in a variety of leadership roles, most recently as COO, and previously as v.p. of operations, and regional director of operations.

Looking forward, Teijin Automotive is optimistic about its continued growth, with a number of key new business wins, and recently announced materials and technology development geared toward ACES mobility, including entire EV battery enclosures, ultra-lightweight Class A body panels and advanced composite materials that meet low VOC, flammability and thermal runaway requirements.
