SK Capital Acquires Valtris Specialty Chemicals
SK Capital further expands portfolio of specialty chemicals, including key plastics additives, with latest acquisition.
New York-based private investment firm SK Capital has announced that its affiliates have completed the acquisition of Valtris Specialty Chemicals from H.I.G. Capital. Valtris was formed in late 2014, when H.I.G., a portfolio company of private equity investment firm acquired Ferro Corp.’s Polymer Additives Div.
Headquartered in Independence, Ohio, Valtris is a leading global manufacturer of a comprehensive portfolio of specialty additives and precursors, offering solutions and innovative products to customers around the world. When it acquired Akcros Chemicals in 2016, Valtris significantly enhanced its plastic additives offerings globally. That acquisition partially complemented Valtris broad range of PVC additives with its range of heat stabilizers and expanded its product offerings into polyolefins. That range of additives include antiblocking and antifogging agents, antistats, antioxidants, and biocides.
SK Capital’s growing portfolio of companies focused on specialty materials, chemicals and pharmaceutical sectors includes a majority interest in Techmer PM, leading designer and producer of engineered compounds and color and additive concentrates for the plastics and fiber industries. Other specialty chemicals companies include. Geon Performance Materials (formerly part of PolyOne, now Addivant), and SI Group, which includes Naugard antioxidants (formerly Chemtura), Ethanox antioxidants (formerly Addivant), and well-known Weston, Ultranox and Lowinox primary and secondary antioxidants for polyolefins and other engineering thermoplastics (formerly Chemtura, then Addivant).
