Gripper and automation component supplier Piab has launched OVM Pro 3D, an on-line tool to configure, simulate and optimize vacuum systems. Standing for “Optimal Vacuum Management Professional”, OVM Pro 3D was developed over two years and utilizes 3D modeling and simulation to streamline the system design process online, providing benefits ranging from control and efficiency to cost savings, according to Piab.

Launched after more than two years of development, OVM Pro 3D enables DIY configuration and optimization, with Piab emphasizing user experience and detailed performance data to make the process more intuitive and reduce errors.

Provided in an open format on piab.com, OVM Pro 3D software features include complete design, where following login users have full access to Piab’s extensive range of vacuum ejector pumps, suction cups, grippers, fittings and accessories. In terms of text and symbols guidance, the software includes technical data such as actual compressed air ranges for selected ejectors and optimal pressures. A lifting force graph displays total horizontal and vertical forces throughout the entire cycle, with separate performance data for suction cups. Energy and power consumption can be visualized, helping users understand the size and capacity of the compressor needed. An estimate of the compressor’s daily electrical power consumption, based on an eight-hour shift, is also displayed.

Performance data can show the time to reach set vacuum level in a particular node, and users can edit tube lengths, which are marked with a “Z” and locked to maintain their length even if components are moved. Finally, the graph feature includes a zoom function for better observation during crucial time frames, as well as a visual checklist to ensure all steps are completed before calculations.
