Avian has been busy since the company’s last NPE presentation in 2018. The 62-year-old company is exhibiting as Avian Recycling System (formerly Avian Granulator Group) to reflect the fact its offerings go well beyond granulation and include a variety of solutions for preparing recycled plastic materials, including shredding, agglomeration, pulverizing and washing.

On display at NPE2024 are some of Avian’s size reduction systems. The G70/100 heavy duty granulator system has an output capacity up to 2,420 lbs/hr. The GF45/120 file granulator has a chamber opening of 18 × 48 inches and capacity from 1,100 to 2,000 lbs/hr. The ASG1350 heavy single-shaft shredder has a 53 × 59 inch chamber opening and output up to 3,300 lbs/hr. Avian is also exhibiting its PA-600 agglomerator.

But the Avian team is also highlighting some newer products which are a bit too large to bring to Orlando, being on the order of 300 meters in length.

“We are making high-quality, high-capacity washing lines available for recyclers worldwide, and with very good performance,” says Andy Gu, V.P. of operations at Avian. The company set its sights on the challenges of removing contaminants from reclaimed postconsumer materials, especially polyethylene terephthalate (PET), to achieve the highest possible value when recycled. “PET recycling can be very difficult, because much of it is purchased from waste management facilities,” Gu says.

To obtain the highest value product from the reclaimed material, Avian’s PET washing line is purpose-built for bottle-to-bottle recycling. At full capacity the washing line can process up to 12 metric tons/hr of PET. One of these high capacity lines is now in production at a recycler in Indonesia. Avian also offers washing systems for processing HDPE and other materials.
