Dr. Nick R. Schott stands as a towering figure in the realm of plastics technology, whose pursuit of excellence has transformed the industry and inspired generations of future leaders. From his beginnings as a refugee in postwar Yugoslavia to his illustrious career as an educator and researcher in the United States, his career exemplifies resilience and dedication.

Schott’s academic journey culminated in a Ph.D. in chemical engineering. Joining Lowell Technological Institute in 1971, his impact was immediate as he dedicated himself to shaping the minds of countless students and spearheading groundbreaking research in plastics technology.

As an instructor and later a full professor propelled Lowell’s Plastics Engineering Department to international acclaim. Under his leadership, the department evolved from a regional program to a global leader, attracting students and researchers from around the world.

Schott’s leadership extended beyond the classroom, as he played a pivotal role in securing accreditation for Lowell’s undergraduate program, paving the way for future generations of plastics engineers. Additionally, his efforts in establishing exchange programs with renowned institutions in Germany and Japan enriched the educational experience and fostered international collaboration.

Named a fellow of SPE in 1986 and a founding member of the SPE Product Design and Development Division, his influence extends far beyond academia, shaping the trajectory of the plastics industry through his research and publications.
