Engel Expands Robot Production Plant
Engel is investing Euro 11 million in its robot manufacturing facility in Dietach, Austria.
With construction set to begin in May 2023 and take roughly one year to complete, injection molding machine and automation supplier Engel (Schwertberg, Austria) is investing Euro 11 million into its Dietach, Austria robot production site. Originally opened in 1980, the Dietach plant today produces Engel’s viper linear robot, e-pic pick-and-place robot and the pic A sprue picker. The company will be adding 3000 m² (32,000 ft²) of space, expanding the facility’s office, production and logistics spaces, as well as its apprentice workshop.
In a release, Engel noted the expansion is in response to the growing global demand for robots, with more than half oft he injection molding machines sold by Engel delivered with integrated automation.
Engel says the plant’s flow assembly line will be modernized by this construction, with
work to be completed by spring 2024. In addition, a new photovoltaic system will be installed. After the expansion of the production areas, the Dietach plant will modernize and expand its existing office space from the ground up.
Jörg Fuhrmann, VP Automation and Composite Systems, will lead the division, assuming his current role in November 2022. Fuhrmann returned to Engel after having already been employed there as the division manager automation technology at Engel Austria and managing director of Engel Automatisierungstechnik Deutschland in Germany from 2007 to 2016.
