KraussMaffei Nears Completion of Corporate Headquarters Move
The 185-yr old German maker of plastics processing machinery is shifting to a more than 200,000-m2 greenfield site in Parsdorf.
Plastics processing machinery manufacturing KraussMaffei has nearly completed the move of its corporate headquarters from Allach on the outskirts of Munich to Parsdorf, a less-than-30-minute drive east from its current location. In its 185th year, KraussMaffei is continuing an investment exceeding euro 100 million in global facilities in Germany and China begun in 2018, including the brand new 200,000-m2-plus greenfield site in Parsdorf.
After more than 80 years, the Munich-based company has almost left its site in Allach for the new headquarters, which will combine its corporate headquarters, injection molding and reaction process machinery; additive manufacturing; and mechanical production and automation, the last of which was previously based in Schwaig. Just as the other three new sites in Germany and China, Parsdorf will also utilize the Smart Factory concept and sustainable building technology, including a rooftop photovoltaic installation that can produce up to 12.5 megawatts of electricity.
KraussMaffei says the new buildings in Parsdorf are key to the company’s new location and modernization strategy. That strategy has included the relocation of four plants to larger, modern production facilities, including the new sites in JiaXing (near Shanghai) and in Einbeck near Göttingen, which are already operational. The relocation of the KraussMaffei Extrusion plant from Hanover to Laatzen has also been successfully completed.
Parsdorf includes three production halls, a main administration building, four office and social buildings, two parking garages, a canteen, a cafeteria and a 15,000-m2 Customer Experience Center. The rooftop photovoltaic system is one of the largest in Europe with a maximum output of 12.5 megawatts (Audi Hungaria in Gyor powered up a 12-megawatt system in 2020). Green landscaped spaces are interspersed throughout the facility, with 140 electric charging stations electric vehicles planned in the first stage, building up to 240 eventually.
The buildings feature an energy-efficient heating system as well as an active ventilation and an high-end insulation. To maintain air quality, the production machines will be enclosed and equipped with an extraction system.
The new Customer Experience Center includes a product and technology avenue, an event area, and a flexible auditorium, as well as a meeting center and a lounge area. From the Visitor Center, visitors can access the various areas, including a TechCenter and training area for reaction process machinery; a technical center and acceptance center for injection molding technology; and a training center for the Digital Services and Solutions Division (DSS).
