Unsorted Waste Becomes Planters

Crescent Garden will be using UBQ material in its new line of planters, called Crescent Too O+. UBQ creates its bio-based thermoplastic using unsorted municipal solid waste—including organics such as garden trimmings, soiled cardboard, and food waste, which would have otherwise been directed to landfills.

UBQ says the material is “climate positive”, that is: the product lifecycle leads to a net decrease in carbon emissions.

This collaboration’s aim is to improve sustainability of Crescent Garden’s containers, without inhibiting beauty, function or value. The first styles to launch with UBQ inside are the Emma line and TruDrop container inserts.

“As a company focused on gardening and cultivating a healthier, sustainable environment, we have a deep understanding of why climate change needs to be addressed—and it starts with us, the producer,” said Harry Tchira, President of Crescent Garden.

In June, the line was showcased at GAFA, a garden products trade fair in Germany.
