Wittmann Delivers Injection Molding Workcell to Alabama Community College
Southern Union State Community College (SUSCC) installed the Wittmann SmartPower120 molding machine with an integrated robot, temperature control unit (TCU) and dryer to support its plastics education program.
Injection molding machine, automation and auxiliary equipment supplier Wittmann continues its support of plastics training programs across the U.S., this time offering use of a complete injection molding workcell to Southern Union State Community College (Opelika, Ala.). Just east of Auburn, Ala., SUSCC’s state-of-the-art plastics training facility offers students 2-year Associate’s Degree programs in plastics technology. Bill Clifton, plastics engineering instructor at SUSCC, says the program runs for five consecutive semesters for an AS degree, with many of those students going on to obtain 4-year engineering degrees, often at nearby Auburn University.
The Wittmann workcell at SUSCC consists of a SmartPower120 molding machine with an integrated robot, temperature control unit and dryer. In addition to the robot on the machine, a separate Wittmann robot is available for additonal training. Beyond training SUSCC students, the Wittmann workcell is also used by RJG, which utilizes the SUSCC facility for its training classes in the region, including Master Molder 1 courses.
Wittmann points out the Eastern Alabama is presently a “hotbed for plastics“, with custom and captive molders in the area including suppliers to the medical, automotive, and leisure equipment segments and others.
Southern Union State Community College (Opelika, Ala.) will use a complete Wittmann injection molding cell to give students working towards a 2-year associates degree in plastics hands-on experience.
