Hardware/Software Package for Processing Recycle
Arburg has combined plasticating-unit features and selected adaptive-control functions into a package to enable more consistent processing of recycled materials.
At the Fakuma 2021 show in Germany last month, Arburg introduced a “recyclate package” of hardware and software to assist in stable processing recycled resins. This bundle of existing Arburg technologies is available for all Allrounder machines—hydraulic, electric, hybrid and multicomponent—and is retrofittable.
Hardware components include a modified cylinder module with a filter nozzle; it’s said to ensure feeding free of interruptions, even with poorly flowing flake or regrind. A special screw geometry is tailored for uniform plastication and is CrN (chromium nitride) coated to reduce buildup of deposits and resist wear. The plasticating unit is also capable of higher temperatures, up to 450 C/842 F.
Software features include two adaptive-control functions. One is aXw Control ScrewPilot, standard on electric and hybrid Allrounders and optional on hydraulic models, which compensates for disruptions in mold filling and maintains stable flow. This hydraulic function is said to achieve highly precise injection and holding pressures, comparable to electric machines. Greater precision results from pressure being applied to both sides of the hydraulic cylinder during injection, together with closed-loop servo regulation.
Additional control is provided by the aXw Control PressurePilot, which provides adaptive pressure control and switchover to holding pressure. It is said to help prevent flash and short shots. In addition, multistage startup sequencing further helps stabilize processing, according to Arburg.
