K 2022 next month will see the commercial launch of a full range of Bekum packaging machines that were previewed in prototype form at the K 2019 show. In addition, Bekum will debut a new range of industrial machines sharing the same new, “Industry 4.0-capable” control system.
Bekum’s Concept 808 continuous-extrusion shuttle machine, which was previewed three years ago, has emerged now as the 8-series. It incorporates the sleek design showed off at the last K, as well as the energy-efficient HiPEx 36D extruders, spiral-mandrel die heads for uniform melt homogeneity, and Bekum’s patented C-frame clamp. The modular design reportedly provides a small footprint and easy access to the extrusion head and blow mold. The new and reportedly unique e-Twin toggle clamp is said to provide fast buildup of clamp force.
A key new feature is the BC 8.0 controller with 24-in. touchscreen with multi-touch capability, expanded sensor technology and secure internet connection. Bekum’s new Digital Service and Support includes freely configurable online dashboards for process monitoring of user-selected parameters (KPIs). Augmented Reality solutions are also newly available to aid in problem solving and preventive maintenance.
The 8-series comprises small models—EBlow 208D, 308D, and 408D—with clamp forces of 6 to 12 metric tons. Larger models for canisters up to 20 liters—EBlow 508, 608, 708, 808, 1008 and 1208—have clamps of 20 to 50 m.t. and are available as double-station machines. The 508 and 708 sizes are also offered in single-station versions.
Also new from Bekum at K 2022 are new BA-series industrial machines with sleek, modular design derived from the 8-series, the new BC 8.0 control and a new, patent-pending clamp having two diagonal tiebars. Clamp force can now be set on the control screen, as can the variable mold thickness. Molds can be quickly and easily removed from the side via quick-change plates. These machines also have energy-saving variable-speed hydraulic pumps, which are also quieter (71 dBA), according to Bekum. The new BA 50, 100, 200 and 300 machines have clamps from 50 to 300 m.t. These machines are available with continuous extrusion or accumulator head.
Also new in the industrial series is the EBlow 38, successor to the Model 37, aimed at canisters from 15 to 30 L, as well as technical components. It shares many features with other 8-series machines, including the new controls, and comes with single or dual stations.
