Sudpack PET Floatable Lidding Film
Sudpack announced floatable PET lidding film for PET trays.
Sudpack announced a floatable PET lidding film for mono-amorphous PET (APET) trays. The sealable top webs can be separated from APET bottom webs, producing recycled materials for infeed into different material flows. The packaging can be used for meat and cheese peelable, thermoformed and MAP packaging. According to Sudpack, the PET floatable lidding is equal to conventional lidding film in terms of performance and processing ability.
At a recycling center, the PET trays would be separated from other packaging by near-infrared scanning and sorting technology. Then, the seelable top web and APET bottom webs would be separated by a float/sink separation, where the top web would float because of its low density.

The product family includes a peelable version as well as a top web featuring multipeel for reopening and reclosing. Sudpack expects that consumers will appreciate the extra convenience of secure closing and longer shelf life.
According to the company, the thin (45 µm) film securely seals against PET trays even if they are contaminated with fats, and has a high oxygen barrier and antifog properties.
The floatable PET does not require adjustments to processing machines and can be processed exactly like conventional lidding films on thermoforming packaging machines and tray sealers.
Sudpack customers can combine the new peel or multipeel floatable films with mono-APET trays for recyclability. Sudpack anticipates that the low weight share of the top web and good separability will deliver a recyclability of over 80%.
