Heartland Polymers, North America’s Newest PP, Producer Makes NPE Debut
NPE2024: The only Canadian-based PP producer operates its inland complex just east of Edmonton, Alberta.
“How can we help you?’ may sound cliché, but that question is truly at the core of what drives the Heartland Polymers team. Heartland Polymers, one of the newest entrants to the polypropylene (PP) market and North America’s only single-site and propane dehydrogenation (PDH) operation, has brought its team to the brand’s first-ever NPE Plastics Show. The only Canadian-based PP producer, it operates its inland complex just east of Edmonton, Alberta.
Says Heartland Polymers’ Director of PP Sales and Marketing Yonas Kebede, “We built the Heartland Complex through the pandemic, and announced commercial production in March 2023. We operate in a very dynamic climate. It gets cold up there, but our operation really isn’t subject to weather-related outages. Besides offering a high quality polypropylene, we are also able to help customers during unexpected interruptions in supply in the U.S. Gulf Coast. It’s also beneficial to be located in one of the world’s top propane-producing regions, and able to produce polymer-grade propylene feedstock for production on the same footprint as our PP plant. We present a unique offering in a lot of ways.”
In 2024, Heartland Polymers is already seeing positive engagement in the film extrusion market with one of the highest quality resins in the nonwovens and thermoforming markets. Heartland Polymers is also adding high-quality, random copolymers to its production mix this year, which is well suited for the food and packaging industry. While the operation is located in Canada, the product can get anywhere customers need it to be as Heartland Polymers’ operation has direct rail service through CPKC which provides access to all major ports and hubs across North America. The company also has a storage facility in Davenport, Iowa, to help ensure reliable access to supply and quick shipping times to customers in the U.S.
Says Yonas, “You only get to be a new entrant to the market once. That’s not something we take for granted. We bring a modern perspective, a state-of-the art facility and a forward-thinking approach to everything we do. We’re here with our entire sales team and look forward to talking to your more about the Heartland Polymers advantage.”
