Following a two-year modernization and remodel, injection molding machine manufacturer Arburg says the refurbished Arburg Technology Center (ATC) in Radevormwald, North Rhine-Westphalia, has fully reopened.

On June 7, Arburg Managing Partners Juliane and Michael Hehl, together with the managing directors and project leads, cut the ribbon on the reopened facility as part of a two-day event welcoming around 250 guests. In 1982 when it opened, Radevormwald was the first Arburg facility located outside the company’s headquarters in Lossburg, Germany.

In a press release, Michael Hehl says the investment displays the German market’s importance to Arburg, with renovations that “marry aesthetics with functionality and environment protection in an outstanding way.” Following its 40th anniversary celebrations, the ATC was “cleared and gutted” in August 2022. Renovations and modernizations included installing photovoltaic and geothermal systems, a triple-glazed glass facade and efficient roof insulation. These building upgrades and the use of renewable energies bring the annual primary energy requirement of the ATC to roughly 40% of a newly built comparable building, without the efficiency upgrades. Arburg says the facility’s photovoltaic system, which produces almost 100,000 kWh a year, covers 60% of the building’s total consumption. During the renovation, the ATC’s staff of 30-plus worked from a nearby temporary space.

The ATC’s top floor now features redesigned training rooms with state-of-the-art presentation equipment. Ulf Moritz, manager of ATC Radevormwald, says the technical center also has seven of the newest Arburg injection molding machines, with clamping forces ranging from 45 to 180 tons, which are available for sampling, testing and training. Each machine is also equipped with automation ranging from a sprue picker and linear Multilift robot systems to a 6-axis robot.

In addition to Lossburg and Radevormwald, Arburg has an additional German tech center in Rednitzhembach, outside of Nuremberg. Globally, the company employs 3,700 across 36 subsidiaries, with additional trading partners in more than 100 countries.
