Comar (Voorhees, N.J.) has acquired Automatic Plastics Ltd. (APL), a contract manufacturer of injection molded products primarily targeting the medical device and pharmaceutical sectors. Headquartered in Wicklow, Ireland just south of Dublin, APL is the first international acquisition for Comar, which was acquired by Morgan Stanley Capital Partners in 2018. The private equipment firm backed this deal and several others for Comar since its acquisition. Those transactions include the acquisition of Omega Packaging in December 2021 and iMARK Molding in January 2020 as well as the construction of new plants and expansions of existing facilities in Wisconsin, California and New Jersey.

APL has been in business for 50 years, and it operates out of an ISO 13485 certified production facility running 30 injection molding machines ranging in clamp force from 25 to 485 tons. In addition to design and product development offerings, APL’s capabilities include overmolding and two-shot molding.

In a release, Comar said that in addition to bolstering its medical device and pharmaceutical packaging expertise, the acquisition of APL represents Comar’s “first step in its global expansion.” Comar now has 11 manufacturing facilities and more than 1200 employees worldwide.
