Plastikos Wins Inaugural RJG Mold Smart Award
RJG named the medical molder as the first North American winner of the new award for its use of RJG training and technology, with YanFeng and Stoneridge recognized for Latin American and Asia, respectively.
RJG announced the first winners of its inaugural Mold Smart Award created to celebrate injection molding companies that have fully committed to improving operations by implementing a variety of RJG services and technologies.
Erie, Penn.-based medical injection molder Plastikos was selected in North America due to its successful implementation of RJG’s technology; utilization of training; and integration of RJG into their ongoing processes and procedures. RJG is presenting one award in each of its global locations: North America, Latin America and Asia.
Plastikos manufactures critical medical devices and electronic connector applications with almost no room for error. Since implementing RJG technology, the company says its production volume has increased by 365% while parts per million rejects have decreased by 90%.
Plastikos utilizes both RJG training and technology to reduce scrap rates, downtime and external reject parts. The technology and the training allow them identify problems using templates made during qualification and cycle graphs to pinpoint where cycle problems occur, according to RJG, while automatically sorting production to ensure only good parts are sent to the customer.
In a release, Rob Cooney, manufacturing manager at Plastikos and Plastikos Medical, noted that over the last 12 years, the company has instituted plant-wide implementation of RJG technology and custom developed a training program, including several RJG classes taught by its own qualified trainer.
The other two winners of the Mold Smart Award are YanFeng in Latin America and Stoneridge Inc. in Asia. YanFeng is a global company focused on automotive applications like interior, exterior, seating, electronics and passive safety. It manufactures more than 50 million door panels, 10 million instrument panels and eight million consoles annually. Due to its high output and safety-critical products, consistently high quality is vital.
Stoneridge Inc. is a designer and manufacturer of highly engineered electrical and electronic systems, components, and modules targeting the automotive, commercial vehicle, motorcycle, agricultural and off-highway vehicle markets. Its utilization of RJG training and technology allowed the company to gain global standardization, while improving part quality.
