Axiom AX Gratek PP40 Offers Increased Tensile Strength at Lower Weight
Graphene nanoplatelets enhance properties for engineering compound.
Axiom has announced AX Gratek PP40, which the company expects to make available in 2025. AX Gratek PP40 is a hybrid composite featuring low-percentage graphene nanoplatelets with glass fibers, a lightweight alternative to metal or heavy 40-60% glass-filled PP components. According to Axiom the material offers up to 20% improvement in tensile strength and an 18% weight reduction compared to commercial 60% glass-filled PP parts.

Axiom has partnered with the University of Toronto in developing the compound. With AX Gratek, Axiom aims to meet the demands of the auto industry for lighter, high-impact components that enable reduced vehicle weight.
AX Gratek also offers an advantage in machinery efficiency. With a lower glass fiber content than commercial 50-60% glass filled PP, it reduces wear and tear on equipment. Additionally, this lightweight material aligns with sustainability goals, as its use contributes to lower emissions. Axiom is working toward bringing the material into production in early 2025.
