The new Tempro Plus C Series of hot-water temperature-control units from Wittmann, Inc., Torrington, Conn., has what is said to be the industry’s first color LCD display. This is said to provide immediate visual indication of processing conditions: When the mold on the screen is green it is within the set temperature range. When it is red it is too hot, and it turns blue when it is too cold. The screen can display three values simultaneously—actual temperature plus set temperature, flow rate, or pressure to or from the mold. It can also display the unit’s operating hours and at what temperature it was operating. Pressurized units have 50% less coolant volume than before, which can shorten preheat and cooldown times. The single- or dual-zone TCU comes in a 200 F open version or pressurized versions for 285 or 320 F with a new design that does not require a reservoir for the heat exchanger. New software and electronics are said to achieve accuracy of ±0.4° F. The system has solid-state relays, which last longer than contactors.
